Chess King
All summer we experimented with the Chesskid training.
The combination of Chesskid curriculum with 1-on-1 coaching was quite fun and beneficial for everyone.
This Fall we encourage students and parents to signup at
We think combining the best of online tools with positive club interaction is a winning strategy for learning.
Along with Chesskid, we have setup a fun chess ladder.  Kids will have opportunities to earn points for solving chess challenges, general participation, and more.
This new approach will be awesome, and I think you will agree.

This will be fantastic!
Queen of Katwe Comes to Theaters!
In theaters this Fall, a major Disney motion picture about chess!!!
The Queen of Katwe is the inspirational true story of Ugandan Woman Candidate Master, Phiona Mutesi.  She rose from extreme poverty to international chess stardom through the 64 squares.
We are making an effort to bring this film to The Alamo Theater.  I really hope we are successful.
Even more exciting -- who would have guessed Disney would produce a major chess film?!
We hope thousands of kids will see this story and become inspired to play.
"Queen of Katwe is the colorful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess. As a result of the support she receives from her family and community, she is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion."

And if all that were not enough....
The FIDE 2016 World Chess Championship Is Coming to New York City!!!
YES!!! One of the most watched and celebrated events of chess is coming to Manhattan!
The FIDE WCC has happened only twice in the United States in over 20 years!
Previous host cities included Sochi, Russia and Chennai, India, making this year's championship a special treat for American chess fans.
From November 11 to 30th, World Champion Magnus Carlsen (NOR) will defend his crown against Sergey Karjakin (RUS) (shown above).
Visit the website http://nyc2016.fide.comfor information on tickets.
I hope to attend a round or two.

A recent article  "You Can Have The Olympics: To Me, Chess Is King" captures some of what the hype is all about.

There is even more we can talk about!  But bringing it back home...
