"Checkmate!  Local Club A Favorite With Chess Lovers"
 Winchester Star article
The Shenandoah Valley Chess Club article was featured in the Local Section of the Winchester Star on Valentine's Day!  We would like to sincerely thank everyone for showing up in force during February.  Special thanks to Reporter Stephen Nielsen who spent time with us, and to all the guys and gals who answered questions about the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club.
We appreciate the show of support and participation during the tough winter months.  Congratulations for surviving to another Spring!  We look forward to trying new ideas this year, like outdoor events and more activities for the kids.
And On That Note...
Family Chess Day & Junior Tournament for Kids 12 and Under
Saturday, March 28th, 2015
Kids Chess
Handley Regional Library
10:30 AM to 2:30 PM
Everyone is welcome for Family Chess Day at Handley Library.  We've done Chess Club for a short while now.  We know the old pros know what to do.
On Family Chess Day, we want to especially focus on our next generation of Chess players.
We will have learning sessions and instructions for the little guys and gals.
We will also setup a Quad tournament for Kids 12 and Under who are interested.  This is a great introduction for kids who want to become familiar with the world of formal Chess.
If your child is interested in participating in the Junior Tournament, stay tuned for Online Registration details later this week.
This Event is co-sponsored by the Handley Regional Library.
Everyone Is Welcome... it's FREE and Open to the Public.
If you want to play casual Chess games and hangout for a few hours, by all means, drop in!
We hope you can join us.
We are looking forward to a great Spring 2015 season.  A few plans are in motion to continue the growth of the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club.  We are selling T-Shirts, publishing pamphlets, and seeking corporate sponsors to further our Chess activities in the region.
Our growth as a Chess community has come directly from the contribution and creativity of Chess enthusiasts in Winchester, across the state of Virginia, and beyond.  We cannot thank you enough.
If you would like to support the behind-the-scenes activities to keep us on track for the long haul, feel free to let us know.
Also, we can always put to use old Chess boards, books, and equipment.  All donations will be added to our the SVCC inventory which I will publish shortly.
Our next event is Monday, March 9th at Handley Regional Library from 4:30 to 7:30 PM.
We meet upstairs on the 2nd Floor in the Youth Services Section.
As always, bring your chessboards and equipment.  Or just bring yourself and a friend.
All ages and skill levels are welcome.
Chess lecture at 5:30 PM and one-on-one instruction for beginners.
We hope to see you again soon.
Happy Spring!!!
David Hubbard
SVCC Director
