Chess Tourney at HRL 2015

Can you believe it's been one year since our inaugural 2014 Handley Library tournament?  We are at it again.

This time SVCC is officially certified to host USCF rated tournaments.

Our June 27th tourney will have both rated & unrated sections available.

This also means, you will want to register early.

Tournament Details will be posted by May 15th.

Registration begins Tuesday, May 26th.

If you would like to learn more about the United States Chess Federation and how to receive an official rating, ask at our meetings and visit http://www.uschess.org.

SVCC Chess Club Inventory Report

SVCC Inventory

Sixty-plus chess books and magazines, three Chess training software programs, and much more.  These resources are available to you -- our community club participants -- to take your learning to the next level. As a not-for-profit community program, we wanted to let you know what our community chessplayers have donated.

If you would like the full report, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to request a copy.  Also, if you would like to borrow something, notify me as well.

Thanks to your contributions we have come a very long way since we started the Club with a simple Meetup page.

There is more to do.  However, we are steadily "improving the position" of establishing a permanent Chess Club with one quiet, strong move at a time.

We are also exploring ways to bring Chess to Stephens City and Woodstock, VA too.

So stay tuned!

Next meeting is Monday, May 4th at Handley Regional Library

from 4:30 to 7:30 PM.

We meet upstairs on the 2nd Floor in the Youth Services Department.
