2015 Shenandoah Valley Chess Club Fall Session
We hope you had a terrific summer!
On Monday, September 14th we resume regular Chess meetings at Handley Library.
We also have a robust schedule of events for the remainder of the year.
Monday Chess is from 4:30 to 7:30pm with a Chess demo at 5:30, plus one-on-one lessons throughout the night. This is an excellent event for families, new players who wish to learn, and for those looking to ease back into the game.
Also on Monday, September 28th come celebrate for the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club 2nd birthday party!
Hard to believe, yet we've done it. We have held consistent chess meetings across the city of Winchester for two years. Our total combined games are surely in the hundreds, and every session worth the effort.
Thank you for the support and presence of our community players, families, teachers, and parents who have supported us through all the learning curves. The Shenandoah Valley Chess Club is ever a work in progress. Yet we have not deviated from our original goal of creating a warm place where everyone can meet and enjoy the classic game of Chess.
Thanks for sticking with us through the journey!
Summer 2015 Recap
We took a break from Monday meetings at HRL, yet our summer season was far from idle.
In June 2015, a dozen participants and players joined us for the
Second Annual Chess Tournament at Handley Library.

We also embarked on a new Chess program with the Bowman Library in Stephens City.

Look for more Chess & Coffee Saturdays too. Steamy's has been an amazing host to SVCC. We really enjoy their support (and coffee too!) This venue will be especially nice as the weather grows cooler.
Chess at Bowman Library from 10am to 12:30pm is a continuing, hopeful step of something new in Stephens City area. It seems to be a better location for those traveling up from places like Woodstock to play. We are also glad to learn that members of the Sherando High School Chess Club might be joining us and we are happy to have them.
Why We Do This?
Chess is important. Chess is challenging. Chess is for everyone.
What I Learned From Chess Below is a recent article written by a professional chess player that truly captures the spirit of why we enjoy the game.
