SVCC Spring Session News
We have played a lot of chess this year! But we're not through yet.
Chess meetings at the local libraries will continue until Memorial Day.
Afterwards, we break for summer.
However, we will still post dates for special outings and coffee & chess mornings at the local cafe.
Teen/Adult Tournament Update
One major change -- the teen/adult chess tournament is being moved to the Saturday, October 8th 2016 -- National Chess Day.
Quite simply, we are at max capacity at Handley Library and need more space to accommodate future tournaments.
This is actually a good problem though.
To make the next tournament happen, I will need a small team of volunteers to help with the planning and organizing phase.
We would meet for 25 minutes once a month to divide and conquer.  This would take little time to structure and execute as we have everything already in place.
Please let us know if you can volunteer.
Chess Coaching / Resources
We are very delighted to see everyone continually improving their chess skills.
Over the summer, we want to explore training opportunities for kids.
Also in the Fall, we would like to establish club ladders and an incentive program to help participants track their progress.
Remember: Chess is 99% tactics.  Here are a few great resources for study and practice:
