Thank you Players, Parents, and Participants who attended the 2015 Win City Chess Tournament!!!
Win City 3
On Saturday, January 31st, sixteen players played headed to headed for three plus hours of competition and camraderie.  The activities were organized by the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club and co-sponsored by Handley Regional Library.  We would like to thank our hardcore supporters who braved the cold to help with the setup.  Special thanks to everyone who came out and competed.  And thanks you to the Handley Library staff for being amazing supporters of the Chess program.
Win City 4
The Win City Chess Tournament was our second tournament, and still somewhat momentous as nothing like it has transpired in Winchester for many decades.  One year ago, we had a club meeting with a handful of chess boards and about 3 players!  We since learned not to have Chess when the temperature hits zero :)
But what a great way to kick off the new year!  Thank you for being apart of this.
Congratulations to Winners:
Jake Tarallo
Arthur Sperry
Bryan Esposito
Michael Beach
And a special round of applause to our youngest participant:  Morgan Myers!
Good job stepping up to the challenge!
Remember -- we have two more tournaments scheduled in 2015.
Saturday, March 28th for Kids 12 and Under
Saturday, June 27th -- the 2nd Annual Chess Tournament at Handley Regional Library
 Winchester Star 2
The Winchester Star is now coming on February 9th Meeting to meet and talk with you -- the SVCC Community Chess Players!
Come by and get your picture in the paper!
Newspaper Reporter, Stephen Nielsen, will drop by at 5:30pm to take photographs and ask questions about your experiences with SVCC.
His article will talk about the Chess Club and what it means for our community.  We started and built this together.  It's time to let the world know what Chess is all about!
We hope you can be there!
Future Developments
Through February and March, we will work on more fundraising activities, including corporate sponsorships and the long-awaited official incorporation (i.e., PayPal button on the website).
Like everything from the start, SVCC has been a work in progress and a true labor of love.  Yet every time we get together and enjoy the game, the effort is all worth it.
If you would like to help with the behind-the-scenes work of forming and guiding the organization, please contact me at    This email address is being protected from spambots. As we said from the beginning, our goal is to establish a chess club that the community can enjoy for years to come.  Our success would have been impossible without your presence, encouragement, and support.
The smallest contributions have gone a very long way and we are very grateful.
So on that note, thank you for being here.
We hope to see you at our next event.
As always, bring your chessboards and equipment.  Or just bring yourself and a friend.  All ages and skill levels are welcome.  We have Chess lectures and lessons for new beginners.
See again soon!
David Hubbard
SVCC Director
