The Shenandaoh Valley Chess Club Has Incorporated!

It's official!  In April the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club incorporated with the State of Virginia.  I would like to thank so many of you who have helped us reach this milestone.

It is the first major step towards becoming a non-profit.  In the interim, this designation as an official business greatly boosts our ability to organize fundraising for the long haul.

We made another great move this April!  SVCC has joined the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber.  We have received a very warm welcome from local business and non-profit leaders who wish to support our efforts of teaching chess.  Long story short, we have much more guidance and resources to further develop the program than ever before.

I wish to sincerely thank you so many of you who have contributed support in the past and keep steering this effort in the right direction.

Special thanks especially to Aimee Gangai, Anna Cumbow, Alex Miller, Eric Williams, Nathan Courtney, Ben Stivers, Gary Auerbach, and John Clark.

2017 is turning into a historic year for Chess in the Shenandoah Valley region -- thanks to all of you.

Local Chess Players Score Big at Ashland Tournament

Great news from the Stephens City Chess Club!  Last week they brought three kids to participate in their first USCF rated tournament with the Silver Knights Club in Ashland, Virginia.  They scored excellent, bringing home 1st, 3rd, and 4th place trophies in their sections!

Congratulations Henry, James, and Matthew!

If you would like to learn more, email John at [email protected]  They have a newsletter on their developments and website at http://www.stephenscitychess.com.  We will be on the lookout for more great opportunities like this one.

Thank you John for helping to support that terrific day!

There are many perks for membership, such as an annual subscription to ChessLife magazine, and frequent mailers on tournaments events all over the country.

Both John at Stephens City Club and myself would be happy to walk you through.

I know many of you have waited a long time for rated play.  We are almost there.
